First things first, a picture is worth a thousand words. And Lani Hilton is the love of my life!
I love my family. Living together in Jerusalem for a year was an amazing experience. I really enjoy taking people on tours to Jerusalem, Galilee and Church History sites. Learn more.
In fourth grade I won the “young author” award and I’ve been writing ever since. My latest book is The Founder of our Peace.
One of my hobbies is snowboarding. These two pictures were taken 23 years apart (gotta love my high school pose!).
I also love performing magic!
I have traveled to China many times, teaching and training across the country. I have also taught several semesters in Chengdu, Xi’an and Beijing as a visiting professor.
Our family has been serving at Provo’s Food and Care Coalition for the past ten years and we regularly participate in humanitarian work. Here are some of us are a couple of years ago in Mexico where my son was building bunk beds for his Eagle project.

John Hilton III was born in San Francisco and grew up in Seattle. He served a mission in Denver, and got a Bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. While there he met his wife Lani and they have six children. They have lived in Boise, Boston, Miami, Mexico, Jerusalem and China. Currently, they live in Utah. John has a Masters degree from Harvard and a Ph.D from BYU, both in Education. John is a Professor of Religious Education at BYU.
John has published several books with Deseret Book, including The Founder of our Peace. John enjoys speaking at Education Week, and at many other events. His education research has influenced policy both in the United States and internationally. John loves being with his family, doing humanitarian work, learning Chinese, and performing magic.
